The Wisconsin State Climatology Office (SCO) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is hiring a full-time Assistant State Climatologist to support their mission of providing climate services to stakeholders statewide. The revitalized Wisconsin SCO serves as a versatile office that fulfills a state climatology office's traditional role of delivering climate services to state communities while also providing opportunities for new, community-informed research on diverse topics of relevance to Wisconsin communities.
Preferred Qualifications for the Position:
- Relevant professional work experience
- Record of successful scientific research, including applied research
- Ability to work independently while also supporting the vision of the SCO director
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and comfort with public speaking
- Demonstrated interest in providing climate services to stakeholders
- Proficiency in computing, including ability to develop online data and visualization tools
- Training in agricultural meteorology/climatology or agronomy
- Experience with outreach to public and stakeholder audiences, including rural communities
This position requires some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location. Funding from a recent USDA grant will support the SCO and this position through at least December 31, 2026.
