Biography
Ryan is an applied climate scientist focusing on topics ranging from precipitation and drought to how our climate affects our health. Drawing on his physical climate background and toolkit, Ryan strives to use this knowledge to boost society’s resilience to climate-driven hazards through novel explorations of the environmental drivers of disease and disease early warning systems, as well as examinations of long-term shifts in the risk of too much or too little water. Prior to joining MCAP, Ryan held positions with Northwestern University, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and earned his Ph.D. in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences from the University of Colorado Boulder. Born and raised in the Midwest, Ryan is delighted to contribute to the MCAP mission of building resilience to our climate in Minnesota and beyond, both now and in the future.
