The average high temperature was more than 6 1/2 degrees colder than normal and the average low was more than 1 1/2 degrees below normal. November 1997 ended up overall more than 4 degrees below normal. However, last November was even colder with an average monthly temperature of 22.4 degrees, the seventh coldest November in St. Cloud history. November 1997 also saw snowfall well above normal. The 11.0 inches of snow exceeded the normal snowfall of 6.8 inches of snow. The worst storm was on the 13th and 14th when a total of 5.8 inches fell. Still, 13.4 inches were picked up last year, so it wasn't quite as bad. Probably the most noticeable part of November 1997 was the unusual persistence of low clouds and fog, including the end of a streak of 10 straight sunless days between October 27 and November 5. Still, November is the month with the least average sun in St. Cloud, so it isn't all that unusual. The cool and snowy conditions offset somewhat the unusually mild September and October this year, leaving the fall of 1997 somewhat cooler, and considerably drier than normal.
