June 18th 2013: Early Morning Storm
Itís finally starting to feel a little more like summer around central Minnesota, especially with the amount of storms Minnesota has been seeing recently. Early Tuesday morning, June 18th 2013, an upper-air trough moved from North Dakota into central Minnesota and produced a storm riddled with rain and hail. This storm had the biggest affect on regions southwest of the Twin Cities Metro area, namely near Springfield and Wabasso. Over 3 hours, Redwood Falls Airport recorded .31 inches of rain. Hail was reported to cover the ground, with baseball sized hail being found near Springfield. Although the rain helps the drought conditions , the hail managed to damage crops right outside of Springfield
The estimated precipitation imagery to the right shows the path of the storm, and what areas got hit the most over a 24-hour period (ending 7:00 AM, June 18th 2013).
